Avoiding
online criminals, identity theft and spam.

Please do not insert my email address in the TO: / CC: fields in your bulk emails. This has now become such a problem that I dedicated this page uniquely for teaching people about a sub-threat unknown to many.  (I worked in the IT-security industry for over 6 years at a company called Symantec and during that time I firsthand saw many disasters related to this threat I now try to highlight to you).

If you ever send an email to more than one person please do not insert my email address in the TO: / CC: fields in the your email. I do not want to disclose my email-address to people I am not personally acquainted with.

Below you will find some explanations to the use of the BCC field. It is a very simple thing to do and it will protect both yourself and your friends when you apply it.

If you do not have time to read all the links above; then please find a brief explanation below instead.

I do not want my email-address forwarded across the Internet. They got a tendency to end up on a SPAM lists and/or on PCs infected with viruses that in turn forward this on to 1000s of other sources (some of them criminal).
It is common for email addresses to be passed into the hands of those who the owner of the address would rather not have it – such as SPAM lists and potentially cyber-criminals.
There has even developed a black market where people sell/buy email addresses in the same way they buy/sell stolen credit-cards. If things go really bad your online identity/presence can be stolen through a hacker/virus that in turn send an email pretending to be you. If this happens then the recipient will never know that you did not send it, neither will you know that this email was sent to him/her pretending to be you (something called Phishing).

Finally: If you ever come across other people who forward/send emails where multiple email-addresses are displayed in their email; please feel free to send them a direct link to this web-page. The more people we can educate about this problem the better it will be for all of us.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation on this matter.
